It was a homecoming of sorts for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Andres C. Centino as he thanked the 110,000-strong Philippine Army for supporting his leadership during his farewell "Talk to Troops" at the Headquarters Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on August 4, 2022.
Gen. Centino, who is set to bow out of service on August 8, 2022, received full military honors from a battalion-sized contingent from the Security and Escort Battalion and a 17-gun salute from the Artillery Regiment's Saluting Battery. Acting Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Roy M. Galido led the arrival honors for the 57th AFP Chief of Staff who also served as the 64th Commanding, Philippine Army (CGPA) from May 2021 to November 2021.
Gen. Centino, in his address to troops, conveyed his gratitude to all soldiers for supporting his thrusts as he wraps up his more than 38-year military service in a few days. Thousands of troops witnessed his "Talk to Troops" which was livestreamed to headquarters of Philippine Army Major Units down to forward operating bases.
"General Centino, Sir, with your unfaltering support to the more than 110,000-strong men and women of Team Army, we have sustained our decisive gains, maintained our operational momentum and paved the path towards the inevitable victory over the enemy," Maj. Gen. Galido said in as he rendered a tribute to outgoing military chief.
