The Philippine Army welcomed Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo as the 34th Army Vice Commander in an assumption ceremony at the Headquarters Philippine Army (HPA), Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on August 9, 2022.
Acting Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Roy M. Galido—who represented Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S Brawner, Jr.—welcomed Maj. Gen. Ligayo at the Army’s main headquarters. Civil-Military Operations Regiment Commander Brig. Gen. Arvin R. Lagamon meanwhile served as military host to the Army Vice Commander during the arrival honors at the HPA Flagpole Area.
“Throughout his 33 years of dedicated service in the noble profession of arms, Maj. Gen. Ligayo has exceptionally served in various command and staff positions” Maj. Gen. Galido said in a speech he delivered at the Silid Andres Bonifacio on behalf of Lt. Gen. Brawner. “With Maj. Gen. Ligayo as the new vice commander of the Philippine Army, I am confident that he will continue to build upon the foundation laid by his predecessors and fulfill his duties par excellence,” he added.
Maj. Gen. Ligayo, prior to his assumption as Army Vice Commander, served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. During his stint as DCS, OJ9, he implemented key policies and programs geared at developing and strengthening the military’s reserve force.
He also held key positions throughout his career such as brigade commander of the 801st Infantry Brigade, 8th Infantry Division; Chief of Staff of the AFP Central Command which is now the Visayas Command; Acting Chief of Staff of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID); and commanding officer of 71st Infantry Battalion, 7ID.
Maj. Gen. Ligayo belongs to the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1989. He holds a Master in Business Administration from the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos in Bacolod City and a Master in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.
