The Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded the 54th Engineer “Sarangay” Brigade (54EBde) for its peace-building and nation-building initiatives for Western Mindanao during the unit’s 31st founding anniversary celebration at the Cabatangan Complex, Zamboanga City on August 16, 2022.

The Army Chief, in his keynote remarks, commended the Sarangay Builders for fulfilling their mandate as highly professional soldier-builders who played a key role in providing development support and security operations, especially in Western Mindanao's disaster-prone areas.

Lt. Gen. Brawner likewise highlighted Sarangay Builders' rebuilding efforts for the war-ravaged city of Marawi through its “Oplan la Rehabilitación.” He cited the 13 internal security operations projects carried out by Sarangay Builders which involved the construction of key road projects in conflict-affected communities of Western Mindanao. The Army Chief also noted the unit’s completion of joint peace and security training facilities, housing assistance for former rebels, and base development projects at various camps of the 1st Infantry Division, 6th Infantry Division, 11th Infantry Division and other AFP units.

“To Team Sarangay, as you embark on another year of service, I urge you to sustain the Army’s path of victory in pursuit of lasting peace and sustainable progress in Western Mindanao,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said.
