New commander takes helm of NCR RCDG

A new commander took the helm of the National Capital Region Regional Community Defense Group (NCR RCDG), Reserve Command, Philippine Army (RCPA) in a change of command ceremony at the reserve unit’s headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on August 24, 2022.
 
Col. Rey Ferdinand G. Ga succeeded outgoing NCR RCDG Commander Col. Ricky P. Bunayog who is projected to post as Deputy Brigade Commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division in a turnover ceremony presided by RCPA Commander Maj. Gen. Fernando V. Felipe.
 
Col. Ga served as the Army’s Chief Military Diplomat from March 2020 until his present designation. He held key leadership posts throughout his career such as deputy of the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, Philippine Army; Chief of Staff of the Army Artillery Regiment; and commanding officer of the 4th Field Artillery Battalion. He holds two Master’s degrees: Community Development from the University of the Philippines Diliman and Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
 
Col. Bunayog, during his nearly two-year stint as NCR RCDG commander, pursued efforts toward improving the capabilities, systems and processes of the reserve unit. He also enhanced the ready reserve unit’s management to sustain its relevance and raised the level of implementation of NCR RCDG’s Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) program.
 
Col. Bunayog holds two Master’s degrees: Training and Development from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia and Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines. Col. Bunayog and Col. Ga are both members of the Philippine Military Academy “Maalab” Class of 1993.
 
The Philippine Army leadership is prioritizing the development of highly capable, readily deployable and well-capacitated reserve units that will effectively complement active troops in times of natural calamities and national emergencies.
