The Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., graced the 37th founding anniversary celebration of the 53rd Engineer “Visayas Builders” Brigade at the unit’s headquarters in Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City on August 26, 2022.
The CGPA, in his keynote address, lauded the Visayas Builders for “vigorously building and tirelessly building the path towards enduring peace and inclusive progress” in the Visayas, most especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
Lt. Gen. Brawner highlighted the Visayas Builder’s key role in the construction of shelter projects for former rebels who returned to the folds of law in Panay and Negros Islands. He likewise commended the unit’s soldier-builders for fostering purposive partnerships with local government units that resulted in the implementation of key farm-to-market road projects in former rebel strongholds in Iloilo and Leyte Islands.
The Army Chief also highlighted the humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts of the Visayas Builders, most notably in the aftermath of Typhoon “Odette” in December 2021 and Tropical Storm “Agaton” in April 2022.
“Your anniversary theme, ‘Kalinaw ng Kalambuan Para sa Tanan (Development and Peace for All),’ truly bespeaks of your unfaltering tenacity in contributing to winning the peace and progress for the people of the Visayas,” the CGPA remarked.
