Army concludes month-long mourning period for FVR

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., led the Philippine Army in the conclusion of the month-long mourning period for the late President and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Valdez Ramos (FVR) at the Headquarters Philippine Army Flagpole Area in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on August 30, 2022.

“This afternoon, we mark the end of military mourning in honor of a great statesman, a highly respected military commander, and a model citizen of our nation. This event is the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ final tribute to FVR’s life spent in the service of all Filipinos, and a declaration of his legacy of empowering leadership, sincere public service, and culture of excellence,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said as he read the message of the AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente O. Bacarro during the afternoon ceremony.

“Such is his love for our country and people that his encouraging spirit and leadership lives on,” the Army Chief said as he reiterated the message of the AFP Chief of Staff to HPA officers and enlisted personnel.

The Army Chief led the simultaneous removal of the mourning band which was followed by three volleys of fire and a flag retreat which capped the activity.

It can be recalled that the military, including a sizable contingent from the Philippine Army, accorded the late president a solemn two-part state funeral on August 9, 2022.
