Philippine Army lays to rest 36th CGPA

The Philippine Army rendered funeral honors to the late 36th Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romulo F. Yap who was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on September 10, 2022.
 
Amid inclement weather, raincoat-draped Security and Escort Battalion led the funeral march from the Libingan ng mga Bayani Gate to the gravesite of the late general who passed away on September 4, 2022. Lt. Gen. Yap, who led the Philippine Army from April 1994 to February 1995, was 83 years old. Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo, who represented Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., led the Philippine Army leadership in paying last respects to the 36th CGPA.
 
It can be recalled that Lt. Gen. Yap was an accomplished artillery officer who served in the artillery battery of the Philippine Civic Action Group, Vietnam (PHILCAG). The 2,000-man PHILCAG was mainly involved in rebuilding key roads and providing humanitarian aid during the Vietnam War in the 1970s.
 
 
The late Lt. Gen. Yap received the Distinguished Order of Santa Barbara conferred by the U.S. Field Artillery Association in 2010.
