Philippine Army athlete shines in 2022 Asian Netball Tournament

The Philippine Team, helmed by Philippine Army netball athlete Corporal Vangie C. Soriano, dominated the plate category of the Asian Netball Championships that saw the action of elite teams from 11 countries in Singapore from September 3 to 12, 2022.

Netball is a ball game played by two opposing seven-member teams on a rectangular court with board-less goal rings at each end. The teams aim to outscore their opponent without advancing the ball through dribbling. A netball player can hold on to the ball for a maximum of three seconds before trying to shoot it or passing it to a teammate. It can be recalled that the Philippine Netball Team, bannered by two Army athletes, snagged the silver medal in the 2022 International Netball Event in Jeonju, South Korea last month.

Special Service Center (SSC) Director Col. John Oliver F. Gabun lauded the Army netball athletes for powering their team to victory. The SSC Director likewise commended the Philippine team for its advocacy to promote netball and to inspire young athletes to try out the said indoor sport.
