Army ping pong team rules Zamboanga del Sur tourney

The Philippine Army table tennis team dominated the 1st Governor Victor Yu National Table Tennis Tournament held to celebrate the upcoming 70th founding anniversary of Zamboanga del Sur province, the Special Service Center announced on September 12, 2022.
 
Army ping pong player Private Sendrina Andrea Balatbat dominated the women’s singles bracket while her teammate Corporal Mirabelle Herrera placed second runner-up in the same category. Corporal Rodolfo Quijano finished first runner-up in the men’s 40 years and above category. Moreover, Private First Class Homber Tiongson snagged the second-runner-up finish in the men’s singles bracket.
 
Team Army also placed second-runner up in the team’s category placing behind champion Philippine National Team and first runner-up Team Shakir of General Santos and Cebu cities.
 
The table tennis tournament saw the action of 32 teams and over 100 elite table tennis athletes from all over the country. The Pagadian-Zamboanga Del Sur Table Tennis Association, in partnership with the Zamboanga del Sur provincial government, organized the said competition.
 
Special Service Center (SSC) Director Col. John Oliver F. Gabun lauded the Army athletes for sustaining their winning momentum in national competitions. “Showcase the Army’s brand of excellence in every game or tournament. Rest assured, your Philippine Army will support you in your sporting endeavors,” the SSC Chief remarked.
