Army Vice Commander leads month-long futsal clinic for Army kids

Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo led a futsal clinic for around 100 Army dependents aged 7 to 15 years old at the Philippine Army Officers’ Village Park, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on September 17, 2022.

The Army Vice Commander said the activity aims to instill sportsmanship and camaraderie among the young athletes as they develop and hone their futsal skills.

The activity, facilitated by soldier-athletes from the Special Service Center, is being held in two batches every Saturday of September. It was conceptualized by the Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group.

Futsal started in 1930 when Mr. Juan Carlos Ceriani, a teacher based in Montevideo, Uruguay, created a version of indoor football for recreation. Mr. Ceriani incorporated principles of football, basketball, water polo and handball in crafting the futsal rule book.
