Army troops save lives amid Super Typhoon Karding onslaught

Army troops risked limbs and lives to save calamity-stricken families after Super Typhoon barreled through Central Luzon on the evening of September 25, 2022 until the wee hours of September 26, 2022.

The 7th Infantry Division deployed disaster response teams in various areas of Central Luzon, the region that bore the brunt of the super typhoon. Meanwhile, the Headquarters Philippine Army, 525th Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, and 5th Infantry Division, readied personnel and transportation assets for possible deployment in calamity areas.

Army troops together with reservists from the 306th Community Defense Center and Zambales policemen evacuated residents living in the coastal towns of Zambales in Luzon's western seaboard and Quezon province in Luzon's eastern seaboard. Army troops likewise cleared toppled trees in key roads to ensure unhampered relief and assistance efforts in the wake of the super typhoon in Polillo Island in Quezon and various areas of Central Luzon.

It can be recalled that Super Typhoon Karding, the strongest tropical cyclone to directly hit the country this year, made landfall in Burdeos municipality on the Polillo islands in Quezon province late afternoon of Sunday. Additionally, reservists from the 203rd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion together with the PNP and MDRRMO evacuated residents in disaster-prone areas of Nueva Vizcaya.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded Army troops and reservists for lending a helping hand to families and individuals affected by Karding. The Army Chief said Army units in calamity-stricken areas will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with government authorities for the conduct of rescue and relief efforts.
