Army celebrates World Rabies Day through rabies awareness, neuter program, and vaccination drive

In accordance with World Rabies Day, the Office of the Army Chief Surgeon launched Rabies Vaccination Drive, Rabies Awareness Lecture, and free Neuter Program for Pet at Philippine Army Officers Club House Pavilion, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on September 28, 2022.

With the theme, “Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths”, the activity was launched to raise awareness to the public about rabies disease in pet animals, its control, and prevention.

The event was carried out with the support of Army veterinary doctors, medical experts, and animal handlers. Various military personnel, dependents, and Civilian Human Resource brought along their pets to avail of the free vaccination, deworming, and castration. The Army Chief Surgeon, Col Joel Enrico N Anastacio, emphasized the importance of safe and efficacious animal and human vaccines which help on eliminating human deaths from rabies.

World Rabies Day is a global health observation being celebrated every 28th of September, which marks the death anniversary of French biologist and chemist, Louis Pasteur, who developed the first rabies vaccine. The tribute is to bring awareness about the world’s deadliest infectious disease and bring the community together to enhance prevention and control efforts worldwide.
