Aspiring Army reservists hurdle warfighting drills

More than 400 Army reservists from all walks of life hurdled the two-day warfighting drills—a key component of the 45-day Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT)—at the Reserve Command, Philippine Army (RCPA) headquarters in Camp Riego de Dios, Tanza, Cavite from September 29 to 30, 2022.

Aspiring reservists who belong to BCMT Class 02-2022 hurdled rope and obstacle courses, rappelling tower rapid deployment, 40-second breath-holding, 12-feet underwater rifle recovery, and rifle marksmanship drills supervised by RCPA personnel.

BCMT Class 02-2022 is composed of 321 males and 104 females coming from various academic and professional backgrounds—licensed professionals, artists, private sector employees, and college students who opted to undergo reservist training since their schools do not offer a Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) program.

Army reservists, hand in hand with regular troops and other government responders, launch relief and rescue efforts that save lives in the aftermath of calamities, particularly during volcanic eruptions and typhoon onslaughts across the country. Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., emphasized the need for the Army to recruit reservists that will effectively complement the regular force.
