Army joins National Peace Consciousness Month observance

The Philippine Army joined the nation in commemorating the National Peace Consciousness Month in a wreath-laying ceremony led by the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Secretary Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on September 30, 2022.

This year’s National Peace Consciousness Month is anchored on the theme “Pagkakaisa at Paghilom: Isang Bansa para sa Kapayapaan.” The commemoration reminded the Filipinos to work together in healing the wounds of the past and apply the lessons learned from previous experiences to build a future that is free from distrust, hate, violence and prejudice.

The guest of honor and speaker, Secretary Galvez, recognized the significance of the event as it memorialized the individuals who are considered the pillars of the Philippine peace process. Secretary Galvez was joined by the family members of the honorees during the wreath laying to remember the peace pioneers of their contribution to the country’s strengthened peace and security.

Moro National Liberation Front Founding Chair Nur Misuari, former Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Ms. Veronica Tabara, and former Undersecretary Cesar B. Yano graced the event. Honored at the Libingan ng mga Bayani were the late Presidents Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. and Fidel V. Ramos, and former Commission on Elections Commissioner Atty. Haydee Yorac.
