Team Army bolstered its bid to retain the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police-Philippine Coast Guard (AFP-PNP-PCG) Olympics overall championship trophy as it tallied wins in the goodwill games’ second week, the Special Service Center announced on October 13, 2022.
Team Army is currently tied with Team Navy as the top team in Officers Basketball with identical 4-1 win-loss tallies. In a related development, Team Army broke a two-way tie in the Enlisted Personnel Basketball with Team Navy, scoring a 5-1 win-loss record. Moreover, Army ballers are leading the Women’s Basketball competition with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Army soldier-athletes are currently leading tallies in sepak takraw, table tennis, volleyball men’s and women’s, chess, golf, and cycling events.
The Covid-19 pandemic prompted the cancellation of the annual AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics for two consecutive years. The goodwill games aim to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie between soldiers and law enforcers.
