Army installs VCPA as the 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division Commander

The Philippine Army installed Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo as the new Commander of the 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division (8ID) in a change of command ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., on October 21, 2022, at Camp General Vicente Lukban, Catbalogan, Samar.
 
Maj. Gen. Ligayo, prior to his assumption as the Commander of 8ID, served as the Army's 34th Vice Commander. He held key positions throughout his career such as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; Brigade Commander of the 801st Infantry Brigade, 8th Infantry Division; Chief of Staff of the AFP Central Command which is now the Visayas Command; Acting Chief of Staff of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID); and Commanding Officer of 71st Infantry Battalion, 7ID. Maj. Gen. Ligayo is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989. He holds a Master in Business Administration from the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos in Bacolod City and a Master in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.
 
Beforehand, Brig. Gen. Zosimo A. Oliveros led as the Acting Commander of the 8ID. He demonstrated leadership abilities as he steered top positions such as the 8ID’s Assistant Division Commander; Brigade Commander of the 802nd and 803rd Brigade, 8ID; Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training of 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division (2ID); and Commanding Officer of 68th Infantry Battalion, 2ID. Brig. Gen. Oliveros is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class of 1991 and holds a Masters’ Degree in Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
 
“Maj. Gen. Ligayo has commenced another journey and has assumed greater responsibilities. I am certain that you will bring forth your competence in pursuing the best interest in your unit. Likewise, I am confident that you will continue to uphold the foundations laid down by your predecessors. I am challenging Maj. Gen. Ligayo to finish the problem of insurgency here in the province of Samar,” said Lt. Gen. Brawner as he concluded the ceremony.
