Philippine Army, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force wrap up disaster response drills

The Philippine Army (PA) and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) wrapped up bilateral three-day humanitarian assistance and disaster response drills held in various areas in Japan from October 17 to October 20, 2022.

51st Engineer Brigade Commander Brig. Gen Jt T. Bajet and Assistant Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, Philippine Army, G9, Col. Jaime R. Datuin led the PA delegation that participated in equipment training and lessons, which aimed at improving both countries’ disaster-response capabilities.

The bilateral HADR activities strengthened the defense cooperation and exchange between the Philippines and Japan, which is in line with fortifying the strategic partnership between both countries.

It can be recalled, that the PA signed an updated Terms of Reference (TOR) with the JGSDF and the Philippine Marine Corps on July 2022. The trilateral TOR lays the groundwork for future collaborations among the three forces.
