Team Army hailed as 2022 AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics overall champion

Team Army added a new feather to its cap after receiving the 2022 Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police-Philippine Coast Guard (AFP-PNP-PCG) overall championship trophy in an awarding ceremony graced by Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Jose Emmanuel “Noli” Eala and AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente O. Bacarro at the Lapulapu Grandstand in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on October 25, 2022.

Army athletes dominated the overall rankings after clinching nine gold medals from various indoor and outdoor sports, including tug-of-war men's and women’s categories, cycling, women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, athletics, chess, football, and golf. Army athletes likewise hauled five silver medals and four bronze medals. Team Air Force and Team Navy placed first and second runner-up, respectively.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., received the overall championship trophy from Chairman Eala during the awarding ceremony at Lapulapu Grandstand. Lt. Gen. Brawner lauded the Army's servant warriors for displaying the Army's brand of excellence in individual and team events.

It can be recalled, that Team Army ruled the 2018 and 2019 editions of the AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics, which aims to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie among soldiers and law enforcers. The Covid-19 pandemic prompted the cancellation of the games for two consecutive years from 2020 to 2021.
