Army grieves on the passing of former Scout Ranger Commander Brig. Gen. Felix Brawner Jr.

The Philippine Army troops bid farewell to the late retired Brig. Gen. Felix Brawner Jr. who defied the reign of communist rebels and restored peace during his stint as a former Scout Ranger Commander. Late Brig. Gen. Felix A. Brawner Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on November 16, 2022.

During the People’s Power Revolution in 1986, Brig. Gen. Felix A. Brawner Jr., was one of the generals who remained loyal and stayed by the side of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. He also advised the executive leadership that there should not be any bloodshed, which was contrary to the advice of other generals who wanted to attack the civilians in Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA). It can also be remembered that his only son, Lt. Felix Brawner III, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Maharlika” Class of 1984, was killed in action while conducting operations against New Peoples Army rebels following a landmine explosion. In this incident, Brig. Gen. Felix A. Brawner Jr., concluded that "his son beat him to the draw".

During his stint as the commander of the Scout Ranger Regiment, he also served at the same time as the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, as he was being groomed to be the next Chief of Staff after Gen. Fabian Ver. The late Brig. Gen. Felix A. Brawner Jr., was also assigned as Brigade Commander in Marawi City, same as with the Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., where the local folks love them both for their utmost respect for human rights and Maranaw’s culture. Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., the current CGPA, is the nephew of Brig. Gen. Felix A. Brawner Jr., and the son of Romeo Sr., who was the former Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals and former Chairman of the Commission on Elections. Brig. Gen. Felix A. Brawner Jr., is a member of the PMA Class of 1957 where he graduated at the top of his class.
