The Philippine Army joined the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) 87th Founding Anniversary rites led by the President and Commander-in-Chief Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., on December 19, 2022, at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand, Camp Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City, Metro Manila.
Anchoring on the theme, “AFP@87: Kaisa ng Sambayanan Tungo sa Mapayapa, Matatag, at Maunlad na Pilipinas,” the ceremony highlighted the military’s accomplishments and contributions to the country’s peace and security. The military showcased some of its game-changing assets as part of its modernization program. The Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Navy displayed its modern military equipment featuring the AW159 anti-submarine helicopter, a T-129 Atak helicopter, a ground-based air defense system, mobile command and control vehicles, armored mortar carriers, a 155 self-propelled howitzer, and a mobile kitchen.
President Marcos Jr. served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker who thanked the AFP for its exemplary performance in the government’s fight against local armed conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic. "For years, growth in the region has been held back by the presence of communist terrorists, lawless elements who hamper the delivery of government services and infrastructure development. Through your efforts, and the support of other law enforcement agencies, we now see a significant decline in their numbers. You have helped to pave the way for development, to foster for communities to live in peace," the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.
Likewise, AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente O. Bacarro assured the Commander-in-Chief of the AFP’s untiring dedication and professionalism to serve the nation and countrymen. "You can count on the same zeal and commitment from the AFP in ensuring the safety, integrity, and security of our country."
