Newly installed Department of National Defense Sec. Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., conveyed the Defense department's current thrusts in his first “Talk to Troops” before Army officers and men at the Headquarters Philippine Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on January 18, 2023.
Sec. Galvez, in his “Talk to Troops” which was live-streamed to Philippine Army Major Units, laid out the priorities that he set upon taking the helm of the country’s defense establishment early this month. He spelled out his thrusts based on three priorities: taking care of soldiers; taking care of resources; and taking care of the organization.
Sec. Galvez also talked about supporting the modernization program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to address the “growing and significant challenges to the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty" and attaining victory against communist insurgency by dismantling all communist guerrilla fronts and neutralizing threat groups.
Sec. Galvez previously served as the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process during the term of former president Rodrigo Duterte and President Bongbong Marcos from 2018 to 2022. He also served as the "vaccine czar" of the Duterte administration.
