Army Dragon Warriors welcomed the “Year of the Rabbit” with a bang as the team dominated the Mayor's Cup Spring Festival Dragon Boat Race held on the Cagayan de Oro River from January 21 to January 22, 2023.
Army paddlers ruled the tourney’s three categories: 1,000-meter Catch the Rabbit Tail Standard Mixed Crew, 300-meter Standard Mixed Crew, and the 300-meter Standard Open Crew.
The tourney—which gathered 636 paddlers that belong to 17 elite dragon boat teams from across the country—is considered Cagayan de Oro’s largest dragon boat race. The race is part of the city's lined-up activities to celebrate this year's Chinese New Year Festival.
Philippine Army Dragon Warriors has been a powerhouse team since it debuted in local dragon boat races back in 2010. The team brought home gold medals during the International Dragon Boat Federation-sanctioned World Dragon Boat Championships in Italy last 2014 and Australia on 2016.
