The Philippine Army installed the new commander of the 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division (6ID) on January 27, 2023, at the Headquarters 6ID, Brgy. Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.
Maj. Gen. Alex S. Rillera formally assumed as the new 6ID Commander in a Change of Command Ceremony. Prior to his new post, Maj. Gen. Rillera served as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (J3). He also led other units such as the Brigade Commander of the 202nd Infantry Brigade under the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division; Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations (G3), Philippine Army and Commanding Officer of the 18th and 44th Infantry Battalions, all under 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division. Maj. Gen. Rillera is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Sambisig" Class of 1991 and holds a Graduate Diploma of Management in Defense Studies from the Australian Defense College and a Graduate Diploma of Defense Studies in Strategy Planning Management from the University of New South Wales.
Meanwhile, outgoing Commander Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido will be the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command. He also headed other units as Army Inspector General; Brigade Commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade under 6ID; Chiefs of the Army Resource Management Office (ARMO), Office of the Army Fiscal Management (OAFM), and AFP Systems Engineering Office (AFPSEO). He also served as the Commanding Officer of the 38th and 40th Infantry Battalions under 6ID and as Chief, Information System Office, Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP). Lt. Gen. Galido is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Bigkis-Lahi" Class of 1990 and holds three graduate degrees - Masters in Management from the Philippine Christian University-Manila, Masters of Science in Information Technology from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and Masters in Public Management Major in Development Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
The presiding officer Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. conveyed his well wishes to Maj. Gen. Rillera and Lt. Gen. Galido as they take on a new role.
In his speech, he emphasized teamwork which is needed to achieve peace in the area of responsibility. "To our stakeholders and partner agencies, I would like to request all of you to continue supporting your 6ID and your Philippine Army. Security is a shared responsibility to achieve a peaceful environment so development will come in full speed" said Lt. Gen. Brawner in his message.
