Philippine Army installs new assistant chief of staff for operations

The Philippine Army installed a new Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, G3 in a turnover ceremony at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on February 7, 2023.
 
Col. Jason V. Jumawan formally assumed as the Philippine Army’s Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations succeeding Col. Alvin V. Luzon in the Change of Chief of Office Ceremony presided by Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Potenciano C. Camba.
 
Prior to his new post, Col. Jumawan served as executive assistant of Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr. He also held key staff positions at the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Armed Forces of the Philippines (OJ3, AFP); commanding officer of the 82nd Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division (3ID); and executive officer of the 301st Infantry Brigade, 3ID.
 
Col. Jumawan is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Marilag” Class of 1995. He holds three Master’s degrees: National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines, Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP); and Public Administration from the University of the Philippines.
 
Meanwhile, Col. Luzon will now assume as the Senior Military Assistant to Secretary of National Defense Carlito Galvez, Jr. He also served as executive assistant of the Philippine Army’s Office of the Commanding General and as head executive assistant of former Army Commanding General and current Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines Gen. Andres C. Centino. He held key staff positions at the AFP Western Mindanao Command and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. He also served as commanding officer of the 53rd Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.
 
Col. Luzon is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Bantay Laya” Class of 1994. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of the Visayas, Master of International Security Studies from the Sydney-based Macquarie University, Master in Public Management, Major in Development Security from DAP, and Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University in Washington D.C., USA.
 
Maj. Gen. Camba, in his keynote remarks, lauded Col. Luzon for leading OG3, PA with a high level of professionalism and competence. He likewise challenged Col. Jumawan to sustain the gains of his predecessor to bolster the Army's operations against internal and external threats.
