1FAB raises awareness about mental health among military personnel

The 1st Field Artillery “Beat ‘Em” Battalion (1FAB) of the Army Artillery Regiment (AAR), Philippine Army conducted a Troops Information and Education (TI&E) about Mental Health Awareness at the Battalion’s Multipurpose Hall, Kuta Major Cesar Sang-an, Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur and via Video Teleconferencing (VTC) on February 13, 2023.

During the activity, Pvt. Jacquiline DC. Dellomes, a registered psychometrician and mental health advocate, served as the guest speaker at the event. Pvt. Dellomes discussed how the person’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being affects a person’s outlook in life. She also extends help by giving professional advice to the troops on how to handle stress, understand others, and make healthy choices in the workplace and their personal lives involving their families.

The mental health awareness is anchored on the command guidance, SERVE, of Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., which ensures the physical and mental health of soldiers, the Army’s most important resource. Mental health awareness is an important topic to tackle among military personnel to improve their understanding of mental health issues and conditions. Most often, soldiers suffer in silence and avoid treatment for their conditions because it is associated with the military culture to handle problems on their own. Increasing awareness of mental health would help them adapt to changes in their lives and work and cope with adversity.
