Army dons ranks to four senior reserve officers

Four senior reserve officers of the Philippine Army are promoted to the rank of Colonel in a donning ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on January 26, 2024.
 
The newly promoted reserve officers are Col. Rolando J. Ong (Res), Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1503rd Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade and the current head of cybersecurity architecture (Asia-Pacific) of ASPERIQ AG, a global Swiss Cybersecurity Solutions Company; Col. Elba S. Cruz (Res), Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1603rd Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade and the current consultant of the Manila Jockey Club; Col. Roger G. Mercado (Res), Battalion Commander of the 805th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion and former DPWH Chief during the time of former president Rodrigo Duterte; and Col. Antonio T. Esmero (Res), Battalion Commander of the 701st Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion and current vice president of HANEI Corporation.
 
“Joining ROTC is not just commitment to a career or program but also a chance to develop lifelong skills and contribute to our coutry’s national defense.” Col. Ong said in his message on behalf of the promotees. He also talked about the crucial role of reservists in nation-building efforts.
 
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Galido commended the newly promoted reserve officers for their well-deserved promotion and for contributions to their various professions. The Army Chief likewise lauded their spirit of volunteerism that anchors their commitment to serve the people and secure the land.
