President and Commander-in-Chief His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recognized the heroism and gallantry of four combat-wounded troops who played a crucial role in a recent operation against the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) during his visit at the Army General Hospital in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on February 12, 2024.
It can be recalled that the four operating troops from the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion sustained injuries during the series of firefights against DI-MG members on January 25 to 26 in Barangay Tapurong, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur. Army troops successfully neutralized nine DI-MG members, including suspects in the MSU-Marawi bombing in the said operation.
President Marcos, who was accompanied by Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., and Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido, personally pinned Gold Cross Medals to two wounded troops in recognition of their gallantry in action. The President also awarded Military Merit Medals (MMM) with Bronze Spearhead Device to the two other soldiers for their crucial role in the said operation.
