Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido led the wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the 45th death anniversary of the late 2nd Lieutenant Tito Abat, the namesake of Camp Lt. Tito B. Abat in Manaoag, Pangasinan on February 16, 2024.
2nd Lt. Abat belonged to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1978 and underwent the Scout Ranger training thereafter. Four days short of his 23rd birthday, 2nd Lt. Abat was killed in action against New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Samar in 1979. The Philippine Army named Camp Tito Abat — the home of the 1st Regional Community Defense Group of the Reserve Command, Philippine Army — in his honor.
“Without a doubt, his ultimate sacrifice in the name of service strongly dictates nationalism and patriotism,” the CGPA said in his remarks.
