2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division has a new Commander

The Philippine Army installed Brig. Gen. Cerilo C. Balaoro Jr. as the new Commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division in a Change of Command Ceremony presided over by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido at Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal on September 17, 2024.

The ceremony saw Brig. Gen. Balaoro succeeded Acting 2ID Commander Brig. Gen. Jose Augusto Villareal who took on the role in an acting capacity following the retirement of immediate former 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong on September 13, 2024.

The continuity of leadership ensures a smooth transition and sustains the Division's operational momentum. Brig. Gen. Balaoro, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991 and former Commander of 202nd "Unifier" Infantry Brigade, has been instrumental in maintaining operational momentum in the division's area of responsibility as the former particularly in the CALABARZON (Region IV-A).

Lt. Gen. Galido, in his keynote remarks, urged Brig. Gen. Balaoro to sustain the Division’s thrust of ensuring peace, security, and progress in Southern Tagalog and MIMARO regions and further strengthen the Jungle Fighters capabilities in peace and development campaigns.
