Army puts premium on Freedom of Information

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City - The AFP Freedom of Information (FOI) Manual recently signed by the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Gen. Romeo S. Brawner AFP, was cascaded in the Philippine Army by the Public Affairs Office, Armed Forces of the Philippines (PAO AFP) delegates led by Col. Xerxes A. Trinidad at the Philippine Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on October 3, 2024.

 

The Philippine Army Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Potenciano C. Camba, as the FOI Action officer, presided over the cascading program. HPA General Staff, the Army Chief Public Affairs, and the Army Judge Advocate attended the face-to-face cascading while Philippine Army Major Units attended via video teleconferencing.

 

The FOI Cascading discussed the salient points, process, and proper disposition of requests for information by Filipino citizens about government transactions and operations without compromising privacy or matters of national security as prescribed by Executive Order No. 2 series of 2016. During the cascading, Maj. Gen. Camba directed all Army personnel to familiarize themselves with the overall process of requesting and granting information to the public.

 

Maj. Gen. Camba also reiterated the need for Philippine Army personnel to disseminate and understand the legal bases and processes in the FOI Manual, elevating the Army's service to the Filipino people and training them to exercise discretion in their duties.
