Army Chief highlights Special Forces' relevance in territorial defense during SFR(A) Change of Command Ceremony

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City - Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido underscored the vital role of Special Forces (SF) operators during the Special Forces Regiment (Airborne)’s Change of Command Ceremony at Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija on November 1, 2024.

The Army Chief, in his keynote remarks, emphasized the vital role of SF operators in the country’s territorial defense, noting that two SF battalions were among the first beneficiaries of the enhanced Philippine Army Battalion Retraining Program to complement the Army's implementation of the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC).

Incoming SFR(A) Commander Brig. Gen. Rosendo C. Abad Jr. succeeded Maj. Gen. Ferdinand B. Napuli who previously led the Regiment from 2022 until his appointment as the Army Inspector General on September 2024. Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Abad served as the Regiment’s Deputy Commander prior to his new designation.

Lt. Gen. Galido called on Brig. Gen. Abad to focus on SFR(A)’s capability refinement to effectively fulfil its role in territorial defense operations. “Thus, we now have to change the capability platform we have. Invincibility is the key. Lethality is paramount. This is something we need to simulate,” the Army Chief remarked.
