FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Soldiers who were wounded
in action were chosen as beneficiaries for the recently concluded concert of Stephen Speaks here Saturday, February 17, 2018.
Stephen Speaks finished his “Alive to fight” Tour in the country last Saturday with his benefit concert for the wounded soldiers as the finale. The tour ran from January 19 to February 17, 2018.
Rockwell Ryan Ripperger, the band’s lead singer, expressed his excitement about the activity and likewise conveyed his admiration to the heroism and sacrifices of the soldiers fighting for peace. The activity was highlighted by Ripperger’s ceremonial hand over of check to Brigadier General Roy T. Devesa who represented the Commanding General Philippine Army.
The band donated 15% of the ticket sales of their concerts in Manila, Iloilo, Boracay, and Davao as support for the wounded soldiers.
About 1000 soldiers and civilians came to watch the event that took place from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm for free. Among the viewers were 28 wounded soldiers currently confined and recuperating at the Army General Hospital accompanied by their dependents.
“We are indeed grateful for the support that the famous band as well as the organizer has extended to our soldiers. Even though the Marawi rebellion has long ended, support and sympathies continuously pour to our soldiers. This concert surely boosted the morale of our personnel and as we move forward, no amount of wounds can refrain us from performing our mandate of serving the people and securing the land,” said Lieutenant Colonel Louie D. Villanueva, the Army Spokesperson.#
