6ID troops provides Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) during the ravages of ‘TS Paeng’

The 6ID Headquarters, Brigades, and Battalions conducted rescue operations for those trapped in the flood in collaboration with local disaster teams and other government agencies. The death toll rose to 64, with 13 people missing and 45 wounded in the said disaster, according to statistics given by the civil defense agency. Some barangays in Cotabato City, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Lanao del Sur are affected by heavy rains and flooding. Troops of the 1st Brigade Combat Team assisted civilians in flooded areas. Disaster risk reduction units of the 603rd Brigade (57IB and 37IB) provided assistance.

Major General Roy M Galido, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, immediately alerted its personnel and directed them to assist those affected by floods, landslides, and flash floods and provide humanitarian assistance.

Military airlifts delivered relief food packs to remote areas affected by Typhoon Paeng. Residents of Lebak, Kalamansig, and Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat province were among the recipients.

The soldiers from the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, together with the elements of the 549 Engineer Battalion, are working tirelessly to help residents who were affected by the previous disaster in Brgy. Kusiong, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

A squad of the Engineer Equipment Maintenance Company (EEMC) under 549 Engineer Battalion, together with the manpower from 6ID headquarters, headed to the area to help clear the road, a day after the disaster struck in the said place.

This is part of the relief and retrieval operations in Brgy. Kusiong after the area was hit by landslides and flooding that claimed several lives.

 

6IB Troops from 6th Infantry (Redskin) Battalion of acted swiftly to undertake rescue operations and provide humanitarian relief in Datu Piang, Datu Salibo, and the surrounding settlements. Families were rescued and fed by Redskin Troopers. Damaged goods were incurred because locals were unprepared for the rapid rate at which the water rose. Commander of 6IB Lt. Col. Michael Glenn Manansala agreed to evacuate civilians. Redskin Battalion made contact with the MDRRMO, BFP, and PNP. There were no reported injuries during the evacuation.

549 Engineer Battalion. The 549th Engineer (KAPAYAPAAN) Battalion, 54th Engineer (SARANGAY) Brigade, Philippine Army, headed by 1Lt Hock Guan De Leon (CE) PA, CMO Officer, together with One (1) DRO Squad, delivered humanitarian aid at Rosary Heights IV, Cotabato City. The unit rescued 4 elderly, 2 teens, and 1 toddler. The unit's fast response during Typhoon Paeng aimed to save lives and promote morale. Such aid could include helping refugees with safety.

92IB. The 92nd Infantry "Tanglaw Diwa" Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Nathaniel A. Balintong, conducted HADR in typhoon-affected Midsayap, Libungan, Northern Kabuntalan, and Sultan Mastura from October 28 to 31, 2022. This unit was on standby alert for HADR activities before Typhoon Paeng's arrival. This unit helped rescue efforts, relief operations, and food programs organized by LGUs and other partner agencies for affected households.

57IB and Kiwanis International Philippine South District donated relief materials in Sitio Happy Valley in Barangay Nuro, Notre Dame of Upi, and St. Francis Episcopal School of Upi in Maguindanao. Their organization provided 1,288 relief items, 200 gallons of water, 1,400 hygiene kits, 50 relief goods in buckets, 500 relief goods with only medicine, 372 San Miguel Purefoods ready-to-eat packs, dinners, and a truckload of preloved clothing. Vice Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, the City of Tagum, the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women, Business and Professional Women Davao Chapter, South Divers Point Sarangani, the ECCan Project, the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, and the 10th Civil-Military Operations (Kalinav) Battalion are distributing relief goods. Lieutenant Colonel Guillermo Mabute, Jr., 57IB Battalion Commander, was pleased with the private sector's cooperation. Lt. Col. Mabute, Jr. thanked Kiwanis International for helping the citizens.

37IB. Troops from 37th Infantry (Conqueror) Battalion along with LGU of Palimbang, 603rd Brigade, 63rd CMO Company, and PNP Palimbang continuuosly distributed relief assistance to 147 families who were affected by the recent floodings and heavy rains brought by Typhoon Paeng at evacuation area at San Roque Elementary School. 37IB personnel along with first responders from LDRRMOs of Palimbang, Kalamansig and Lebak all of Sultan Kudarat Province are exerting efforts to bring in assistance to other isolated areas of said municipalities.

 

 

7IB. The soldiers of the 7th Infantry (TAPAT) Battalion of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, PA, continue to serve faithfully in collaboration with the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in assisting and supporting our countrymen affected by flooding caused by typhoon PAENG in several barangays of Senator Ninoy Aquino and Bagumbayan in the province of Sultan Kudarat.

6DTS HADR. The DRRO units of the 6th Division Training School (6DTS) quickly conducted search and rescue operations in Dimapatoy River and rescued families in site that were affected. Unit is currently on search and rescue in flashflood area of Brgy. Kusiong, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

MAKASAG helps Paeng victims Severe tropical Storm "Nalgae," locally known as Typhoon "Paeng," was the 16th tropical cyclone that struck the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the most damaging of the year. Typhoon Paeng triggered flash floods, landslides, and soil erosions in BARMM from 28 October to 2 November 2022, affecting 557,000 persons.

 

The 2nd Mechanized Infantry "MAKASAG" Battalion, led by LTC SAMUEL C NADALA JR ARM (GSC) PA, and numerous stakeholders in Maguindanao came together to address and act on the situation. During typhoon Paeng, the unit also conducted pre-emptive evacuations for most affected families and Search and Rescue, Humanitarian Assistance, and Disaster Response Operations.

Using unity, volunteers and donations from government agencies and NGOs met the needs of all affected families (NGO). The quick response to Typhoon Paeng was due to the government's and volunteers' readiness. Likewise, the 2nd Mechanized Battalion will continue to fulfill its mission with maximum attention and dedication. Our motto is to be there and do our best. (2LT ANGELICA B COLLADO)

6CMO HADR. After "Tropical Storm Paeng" claimed more lives in Central Mindanao on October 27, 2022, the Civil-Military Operations (Kasangga) Battalion of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division of the Philippine Army did a series of HADR operations in Maguindanao Del Norte, Maguindanao Del Sur, and Sultan Kudarat.

6CMOBn deployed Battalion Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) to help 6ID's rescue operations during TD Paeng's landfall in Cotabato City and neighboring Maguindanao towns on October 28, 20222. QRTs, local government rescuers, and other uniformed troops rescued hundreds of flash flood victims.

The 6CMOBn and other stakeholders and partners in Central Mindanao provided transportation and personnel the day after TD Paeng struck. This team partnered with LGUs, NGOs, people's groups, national media outlets, and private individuals to provide 55 humanitarian products to hard-hit provinces. In Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Sultan Kudarat, 55 items of aid were given out by the local government, NGOs, people's groups, and national media.
