The municipality of Maimbung, Sulu is now ready for further development after the Municipal Task Force in Ending Local Armed Conflict (MTF-ELAC) declared Maimbung as an ASG-Free municipality held at Matatal Gymnasium, Barangay Matatal, Maimbung, Sulu on June 8, 2023.
In her remarks, Hon. Hja. Shihla A. Tan-Hayudini, Municipal Mayor of Maimbung and Chairperson of MTF-ELAC said, "Viewed from many perspectives and considering the many years of being held hostage by the armed criminals, today marks a significant milestone in our continued quest for peace, when we are declaring the municipality of Maimbung free from the threats of the Abu Sayyaf Group. The good name of Sulu and peace-loving Bangsa Sug has been tarnished by this group, but today we are now declaring our municipality ASG-Free."
The Maimbung MTF-ELAC issued Resolution Number 02-2022 declaring the municipality as ASG Free and ready for further development. During the program, the ASG-Free Maimbung banner was unveiled to make the declaration official.
Gov. Abdusakur M. Tan, Chairperson of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict and Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander of 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division concurred the signing of the Declaration of ASG - Free Maimbung. Other signatories were Ms. Emini T. Kadiri, Provincial Director, MILG; Brig. Gen. Eugenio Boquio, Commander of 1101st Infantry Brigade; Engr. Ajan Ajijul, Sulu 1st District Engr., Pol. Col. Narciso Paragas, Provincial Director of Sulu Provincial Police Office; barangay officials and other local government agencies.
Following the declaration, Maj. Gen. Patrimonio said, "I am honored to be part of this momentous event which have been the result of the active collaboration of our local government unit, security sector, partner stakeholders, and the people of Maimbung. Our collective vision of an ASG-Free Maimbung have been realized and this municipality is now ready for further development. I hope that we sustain this status and to continually push for the attainment of inclusive peace in the province of Sulu."
In his message, Gov. Tan said, "Sa tulong at suporta ng mga residente, Local Government Unit, at security sectors lalong-lalo na ang 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division ay naging matagumpay ang ating kampanyang pang-kapayapaan at naideklara ang bayan ng Maimbung bilang ASG-free."
"Kung may gusto tayong mangyari magiging posible ito kung tayo ay tulong-tulong. Umpisahan natin sa mga kabataan ngayon dahil sila ang magiging pag-asa ng bayan, marami pa tayong dapat gawin kaya patuloy lang tayo sa ating magandang gawain hanggang sa ang buong probinsya na ang magiging ASG free" Gov. Tan concluded.
