BARMM holds first RPOC Meeting in Sulu

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) held the 2nd Quarter Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Meeting CY 2023 at Sultan Jamalul Kiram Gymnasium in Maimbung, Sulu on June 10, 2023.

Hon. Ahod B. Ebrahim, BARMM's Chief Minister presided the meeting that was attended by Sec. Carlito G. Galvez Jr.,, Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity; the Provincial Governors of Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao Del Norte, and Maguindanao Del Sur, the different BARMM Ministers, Mayors of Sulu, high ranking military and police officials, and head of agencies in the region.

In his remarks, Gov. Tan said, "We are honored to welcome the BARMM government, leaders of the different security sector, and partner stakeholders in Sulu. Let us make this RPOC not only an statistics but a real avenue for dialogue and consensus building to address the complex situation we are facing. We are motivated for our desire on peace process in the region and we are committed to support the peace process and the BARMM leadership."

Lt. Gen. Roy M Galido, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command narrated, "The peace and security campaign in the region resulted to the clearing of 105 affected barangays in BARMM, 225 Local Terrorist Group have been neutralized, and 176 firearms gained since January 2023. However, the Rido and loose firearms remain to be a challenge to the prevailing peaceful situation in the Bangsamoro Region. The AFP is in full support to the aspirations of the BARMM in the attainment of peace in the region."

Moreso, the salient points of the RPOC meeting were the peace and order and safety updates presented by Police Brig. Gen. Allan C. Nobleza, Police Regional Office - BAR and the proposed postponement of Barangay elections in the region.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ebrahim said, "I am thankful to the ministers for providing intervention to boost the economy of the region. Aside from that, my admiration to the efforts of Provincial Task Force Ending Local Armed Conflict (ELAC) for success of the implementation of the Balik Barangay Program is a manifestation of what Sulu has become. We shall stand united to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

"I therefore call upon you to embrace the spirit of collaboration to work together for the Bangsamoro that is empowered and cohesive to attain progress and stability in our region," Chief Minister Ebrahim concluded.

Sulu hosted the RPOC for the first time is historic that marked an improved security landscape in the province and a manifestation that Sulu becomes peaceful and progressive province in the BARMM region.
