The 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division in collaboration with Sulu Provincial Government, spearheaded the Inauguration Ceremony of Bud Bagsak Memorial Marker at Barangay Bagsak, Talipao, Sulu on June 15, 2023.
Prior the ceremony, the military personnel and partner stakeholders trekked a total of 1.5 kilometer going to the hilltop of Bud Bagsak. It was followed by the Ribbon Cutting and Unveiling of the Battle of Bud Bagsak Memorial Marker, Wreath Laying Ceremony, and Opening of the Bud Bagsak Memorial Park.
According to Brig. Gen. Eugenio Boquio, Commander of the 1101st Infantry “Gagandilan” Brigade and event organizer, "We held this event to offer our respect to the fallen Tausug Brothers and Sisters in the Battle of Bud Bagsak and honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend their land. Through this event, we aim to foster a sense of appreciation of Lupah Sug’s defenders."
Engr. Ben Akalal conveyed the message of Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan saying, "We gathered here today to witness this another remarkable event. This is to remember and honor our forefathers in resisting the foreign rule. We are excited to make this landmark to be part of an adventure site. Our Sulu Governor is very supportive in this undertakings. Rest assured that Sulu Provincial Office is with you all."
During his message, Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander of the 11ID expressed his gratitude to 1101st Bde and 2nd Special Forces Battalion for initating the event saying, "The historic event that took place here in Sulu reminds us the bravery of our Muslim brothers and sister who fought valiantly even being outnumbered, outgunned and undaunted. Sulu has gone far and I believe that in the future, Sulu will grow. Let's continue our peace and security campagin to sustain the relative peace here in the province of Sulu," said Maj. Gen. Patrimonio.
Present during the event were Brig. Gen. Giovanni T. Franza, Commander of 1102nd Bde; Mr. Allam Pala, representative of Mayor Tulawie of Talipao; Mr. Noenyrie Asiri, Focal Person of Sulu PTF-ELAC; Engr. Ajan Ajijul, Sulu District Engineer; other senior officers of 11ID, and partner stakeholders.
