200 Beneficiaries undergo Free Surgical Operation in Sulu

 Camp Bautista Jolo, Sulu - July 13, 2023

GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. (GMAKFI, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP) in partnership with 11th Infantry Division, Sulu Provincial Office and Sulu Integrated Provincial Hospital (IPHO) conducted the Sulu Surgical Outreach Program held at 11ID headquarters in Camp Bautista Jolo, Sulu on July 11, 2023.

In her remarks, Ms Maricel Tarrayo, GMA Project-In-Charge, conveyed her deepest appreciation for the support of military and local government units and assured that GMAKFI will continue its mission in extending help to those in need.

"Nagpapasamat kami sa ating mga kasundaluhan at lokal na pamahalaan sa kanilang pagiging aktibo sa pagsuporta sa ganitong gawain. Hindi magiging successfull ito kung hindi dahil sa inyo. Makaasa kayo na patuloy kaming maghahandog na aming serbisyo sa mga nangagailangan."

According to Dr. Farrah Tan-Omar, IPHO Director, around 200 individuals who availed the said Surgical Outreach Program. She also expressed her gratitude for the event made possible saying, "During the pre-screening, meron po tayong mga major and minor cases na mag u-undergo netong Surgical Outreach Program. Nagpapasalamat kami sa mga doktor na nandito, na naglaan ng oras upang pumunta at magbigay tulong. Kulang talaga yung mga doktor dito sa Sulu, kaya umaasa kami na may mga deploy din dito. I hope that the partnership we made will not start and end here but a beginning of a long partnership for the benefit of less fortunate in Sulu," said Dr. Tan-Omar.

On the other hand, Dr. Marcus Lester Suntay, President of WSFP gave an overview of the SOP which aimed to help the people and communities in the province of Sulu. "Rest assured that we are here to serve you and continue our mission in providing quality, life-changing, life saving surgeries to the community. It is not the volume that is important but it is the safe and quality surgical care that we provide to our patients," Dr. Suntay said.

Among the services offered were the following: Thyroidectomy; Cholecystectomy; Herniorrhapy; Mastectomy; Hemorrhoidectomy; Fistulectomy; Cyst Removal; Uterine Myomectomy; Cleft Lip Repair; Pull-through Surgery;nPosterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty (PSARP); and, Colostomy.

Meanwhile, Sulu Governor Abdsakur M. Tan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to GMAKFI, WSFP and to the military for their services. "Lugod kaming nagpapasalamat sa inyong serbisyo. Napaka laking tulong ito lalo na sa mga kapos at hirap ng makapunta sa mga hospital na kayang bigyan ng lunas ang kanilang mga sakit. Sana ay magtuloy-tuloy pa itong mga programa."

In his speech, Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio expressed his sincere gratitude to the GMAKFI and WSFP for the initiative to help the community and committed their full support for the activity.

"The Alakdan Division is very happy to assist and facilitate this Sulu Surgical Outreach Program. Nagpapasalamat kami sa GMAKFI and WSFP for this program. We hope that this will be successful. Rest assured that the 11ID and Joint Task Force Sulu will always be your partner for the betterment of Sulu,” said Maj. Gen. Patrimonio.
