The GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. (GMAKFI), in partnership with the Joint Task Force (JTF) Sulu and local government units, orchestrated the Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan program to different schools in the province of Sulu in connection with Sulu Surgical Outreach Program on July 12-13, 2023.
The Give-a-Gift Program distributed backpacks with school supplies in Barangay Pasil Elementary School, Indanan, Sulu and Kambingan Elementary School in Kalingalan Caluang District which benefited around 220 upcoming kinder and grade 1 students of the said elementary schools. The backpacks containing a complete set of school materials which includes: 5 notebooks, 2 pads of papers, 2 pencils, a sharpener, an eraser, and a set of crayons. The bags with school supplies donated were intended to aid the learning tools of the students for the upcoming opening of classes this School Year 2023-2024.
According to Mr. Aron Paul Calma, Project Staff of GMAKFI, the project of GMAKFI is to support the underprivileged children from far-flung areas. "As we continue our advocacy to help underprivileged children, we consistently collaborate with military for assistance and security as well. We want to give children support and quality education for them,” said Mr. Calma.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander of the 11ID and Joint Task Force Sulu expressed his utmost gratitude for the initiatives of GMAKFI in the province.
"With this program, it will served as a proof of our collective efforts. Let us remain committed in uplifting the lives of those in need and continue to support and deliver programs for the betterment of the people of Sulu," said Maj. Gen. Patrimonio.
The GMAKFI Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan Program is one of their projects which aims to provide means for students to have access to school supplies.
