Four barangays in Indanan declares clear from ASG influence

Brig. Gen. Taharudin P. Ampatuan, Assistant Division Commander of 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division presided over the Area Clearing Validation Board (ACVB) declaring the 4 barangays in Indanan as cleared from influence of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) held at Camp Bud Datu, Barangay Tagbak, Indanan, Sulu on July 27, 2023.

According to Cpt. Omar Pamen, Civil-Military Officer of 1103rd Infantry "Kalis" Brigade who presented the result of Community Support Program- Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (CSP-PCVE) saying, "The 4 identified barangay were composed of Barangay Kagay, Barangay Sawaki, Barangay Tumantangis and Bud Taran all in Indanan. After series of evaluation and validation we can now formally declare these barangay clear from ASG influence."

In his remarks, Brig. Gen. Ampatuan expressed his gratitude for the success of CSP-PCVE through the collaborative efforts of the local government units and other partner stakeholders.

"Nakita na natin ang pagbabago ng Sulu. Congratulations sa ating lahat at sana ay magtuloy tuloy na ang pag unlad ng munisipyo ng Indanan. Hindi natin ito magagawa kung hindi dahil sa kooperasyon ng bawat isa. Sooner or later, madedeclare na natin ang buong Indanan na free from ASG," said Brig. Gen. Ampatuan.

It can be recalled that in 2021, the security forces recorded a total of 52 ASG influenced barangays in Sulu. With the declaration of the 4 remaining barangays, the Province of Sulu is now cleared from ASG influence.

Meanwhile, among the highlights of the event was the signing of documents declaring that recommended barangays cleared of ASG affectation and barangays influence. Open forum addressing the needs of each barangays.

Present during the event were Brig. Gen. Christopher C. Tampus, 1103rd Bde Commander; Police Lt. Col. Kris Conrad Gutierrez, Sulu PPO; Ms. Nashra R. Tulawie, MILG-Sulu; Lt. Col. Joel Delmendo, Commanding Officer of 100IB, Barangay Officials and JTF Sulu staff.
