The Municipal Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (MTF-ELAC) led by Hon. Nivocadnezar Tulawie Mayor of Talipao, in collaboration with the 1101st Infantry “Gagandilan” Brigade and 2nd Special Forces Battalion, officially declared the municipality of Talipao as ASG FREE at the summit of Bud Talipao in Barangay Marsada, Talipao, Sulu on August 12, 2023.
According to Brig. Gen. Eugenio C. Boquio, Brigade Commander of 1101Bde, "We held the declaration of Talipao as ASG Free in Bud Talipao due to its historical significance. It's been 110 years since the Battle of Bud Talipao and it is high time we honor their heroisn and sacrifices. We are also promoting this as a potential tourist site for the people of Talipao to benefit."
The event was highlighted by the Battle of Bud Talipao Memorial Marker and "I WAS HERE" Marker Inaguration, Wreath Laying Ceremony, and Signing of Memorandum of Understanding declaring Talipao as ASG Free.
In his message, Brig. Gen. Taharuddin P. Ampatuan, Assistant Division Commander of 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division said, "Ginugunita natin ang ASG Free municipality dahil sa pagmamahal ng Bangsa Sug sa kapayapaan, kalayaan, at dignidad. Kami ay nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng taga Lupah Sug at binigyan ninyo kami ng pagkakataon na makapag serbisyo sa inyo. Magandang alaala na kapag aalis kami sa Sulu ay iiwan natin itong maayos."
Meanwhile, Mr. Erwin Tan conveyed the message of Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan saying, " We commend the initiatives of the military, other stakeholders, and the LGU of Talipao in marking a significant milestone on declaring the municipality as ASG Free. Let us continue to work for the sustainment of peace and development in the province of Sulu."
In a statement, Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander of 11ID said, "Your Alakdan Division will continue to strengthen our active collaboration with our LGUs and further strengthen our resolve to finally attain the just and lasting peace the province of Sulu aspires for. Let us work together together to sustain the peace we have."
