The 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division and Patikul Local Government Unit honored the sacrifices of the late Brig. Gen. Teodulfo Bautista and his soldiers in a wreath laying ceremony held at Barangay Danag, Patikul, Sulu on October 10, 2023.
Brig. Gen. Tampus, 1103rd Brigade Commander narrated, "On October 10, 1977 the late Brig. Gen. Bautista, who was then the Commanding General of the 1st Infantry Division, sacrificed his life and 34 of his men after they were lured in a supposed peaceful dialogue with rebel leader Usman Sali. We are here today to commemorate their 46th death anniversary and honor their sacrifices."
In his message, Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander of the 11ID and Joint Task Force Orion said, "The legacy of Brig. Gen. Bautista and his soldiers is a testament of the Philippine Army honor, patriotism and duty. They were men of honor, men who response selflessly to the call of duty and men who believed a noble cause of seeking just and ensuring peace for our nation. We offer flowers here today to extend our deepest appreciation for their sacrifice and pay respect our respect to them."
"Let us strive to build a better and more secure future for our nation. Keeping alive the memory of those who have gone before us. We will never forget their sacrifices and in their honor we will continue to serve the province of Sulu with dignity, bravery and unwavering commitment," said Maj. Gen. Patrimonio.
Among the highlights of the activity were the ceremonial wreath laying held at the stone marker and a 21 gun salute to honor the legacy of gallantry and heroism of Brig. Gen. Bautista and his men in attaining peace.
Meanwhile, Patikul Mayor Kabir E. Hayudini expressed his deepest gratitude saying, "Ang kanyang kabayanihan ay nagdulot ng katiwasayan at kapayapaan na ating tinatamasa ngayon. Kung wala po siya ay iba siguro ang ating kinahantungan sa ngayon. Napaigting ang kampanya para sa kapayapaan dahil sa kabayanihan at sakripisyo nila. Ako ay kaisa ninyo sa pag alaala ng ating magiting na Heneral. Buong puso akong nagpupugay sa kanilang hindi matatawarang sakripisyo."
The event was witnessed by the 11ID Batalion Commander and Staff, teachers and students of Patikul National High School -Danag Annex, and local residents of Barangay Danag, Patikul, Sulu.
