The 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division in partnership with Sulu Provincial Office and Football for Peace Movement Inc. initiated another Football for Peace 2023 held at Sulu Provincial Sports Complex, Barangay Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu on October 12, 2023.
According to Lt. Col. Rolando Granados, Deputy Chief for Civil-Military Operation officer said that, "The purpose of this activity is to have a football clinic. We have selected participants coming from different municipalities ranging from 12 years old and below which was facilitated by the Alakdan Troopers."
In a statement, Col. Stephen Cabanlet who was the co-founder of Football for Peace reiterated the objective of the program saying, "Football becoming an instrumental force in overcoming conflict and bringing communities together in unity for peace and development especially in Mindanao. We are here today to promote football and hopefully one day to establish a Sulu Football Association and we are fully committed to support you."
Among the highlights of the activity were the ceremonial kick-off and awarding ceremony of the football champions and most valuable players.
In his remarks, Maj. Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, Commander of the 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force expressed his profound gratitude to the Football for Peace Movement Inc. for officiating the event saying, "Nagpapasalamat kami sa Football for Peace Movement Inc. sa pagbibigay ng oras sa ating mga kabataan dito sa Sulu upang maturuan at umaasa kami sa mga grupo ng mga kabataang ito ay makapili tayo ng mga magagaling na football players. This is a good avenue to promote peace through sports."
The activity was graced by Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan; 1st District Congressman Samier Tan; Brig. Gen. Christopher C. Tampus, 1103rd Bde Commander, Football Coaches and 11ID Battalion Commanders.
