The acts of awarding and honoring have long been practiced, adopted, and have continuously weaved with the evolving system in the organization throughout history. The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ highest military award is the Medal for Valor also known as the “Medalya ng Kagitingan'' was instituted in 1902 to honor the individuals for their supreme self-sacrifice and the distinctive act of heroism and gallantry.
In 2001, the Philippine government declared an act granting monthly gratuity and privileges to a Medal for Valor awardee in order to strengthen the patriotic spirit of the men and women of the military while performing their duty.
