Vintage Act of Heroism: Soldiery

Most people hail the ultimate sacrifice of soldiers as a heroic deed, but where does a soldier's heroism truly begin?

Soldiery is more than simply a "job" for the soldiers. It is a selfless act driven by patriotism. However, their love for their country requires significant sacrifice from them and their families. Similar to firearms and other military resources of the Philippine Army, its soldiers are assigned unique serial numbers, indicating that the government has authority over each and every soldier.

Soldiers' heroic acts do not begin after they have sacrificed their lives for the country. It begins when they finally decide to abandon their civilian lives, giving up their personal dreams and freedom in exchange for unprecedented risk and danger. Leaving the comforts of their homes with no guarantee that they will see their families again. Despite understanding the cost of their decisions, they still opted to wear combat boots, carry a jungle pack, bear firearms, patrol every part of the country day and night, and reach out to remote communities, ensuring that these vulnerable communities understand they are seen, heard, and protected.

Over the course of 127 years, the Philippine Army has consistently and persistently fulfilled its sworn duty for every Filipino citizen, including the heroes among them, and to have soldiers who continue to choose to love their country and its countrymen more than themselves and be part of the organization that serves the people and secures the land is not an opportunity for the soldiers but rather an honor for the Filipinos.
