Army needs medical doctors for battling COVID-19

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – In light with the Philippine Army’s (PA) response to assist the government in combatting COVID-19, the PA has started to call-out additional medical doctors to join the Army Medical Corps here today, April 16, 2020.

Commanding General, Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay gave his guidance to the Army Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel, Office of the Army Chief Surgeon (OACS), and Office of the Army Chief Nurse to fast track the recruitment of medical practitioners who will be deployed to COVID-19 treatment facilities.

Applicant must be a graduate of Doctor of Medicine, has a valid and current PRC License, natural-born Filipino citizen, 25 to 38 years old, single or married and of good moral character.

Upon taking oath, the newly recruited doctors will have an initial rank of Probationary Second Lieutenant with a base pay of Php 38,366 plus allowances and other benefits. Once commissioned, they will be promoted to the rank of Captain with base pay of Php 56,582 and additional benefits.

“We intend to augment the Philippine Army medical workforce in order to strengthen the organization’s capabilities in responding to the government’s call to fight the COVID-19,” said Gapay.

“The Army has already recruited health professionals such as nurses deployed at various COVID-19 treatment facilities. Now, we call on physicians to join the Philippine Army who will embody our core values of honor, patriotism, and duty, to serve the Filipinos in this health crisis,” he added.#
