PH Army installs new Kampilan Commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City - The Philippine Army installs Maj. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete as the new Commander of the 6th Infantry "Kampilan" Division (6ID) in a Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony at Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on July 23, 2024.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido graced the event as the outgoing 6ID Commander Maj. Gen. Alex S. Rillera turned over the leadership role to Maj. Gen. Nafarrete. Maj. Gen. Rillera, a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Sambisig" Class of 1991, served in the military for almost 38 years and spent the last year leading the 6ID troops as they gained combat accomplishments against the communist terrorist groups within their areas of responsibility.

Prior to his new designation, Maj. Gen. Nafarrete also led the troops from the 1st Infantry Division and the Joint Task Force Zampelan, Western Mindanao Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines. He also held various leadership posts in the 1101st Brigade, 11th Infantry Division; and the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, AFP. Maj. Gen. Nafarrete is a graduate of the PMA "Bigkis-Lahi" Class of 1990.

During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Galido congratulated both generals for embarking on the new chapter of their military careers. He also emphasized the the Philippine Army's support to the statements made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in his recent State of the Nation Address and challenged the new Acting Commander to ensure the peace and avoid conflict.
