Army Signal Regiment has a new Commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – Col. Jamel P. Samonte assumed as the new Commander of the Army Signal Regiment (ASR) in a Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony at Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on August 8, 2024.

Col. Samonte took over the position from Brig. Gen. Alejandro J. Papa in a ceremony presided by the Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido. Col. Samonte is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Bantay-Laya" Class 1994. Prior to his new designation, he served as the Deputy Commander of the Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines (CEISSAFP). Col. Samonte has Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Development Academy of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Papa bowed out from the service after rendering 38 years of faithful military service. During his stint as Commander of ASR since 2022, the division has significantly contributed to the Army's adoption of modern information systems and communication technologies.

Lt. Gen. Galido lauded Brig. Gen. Papa for bringing honor to the command. He also congratulated Col. Samonte on his new position and gave his first order to the ASR. "Give the best working place to our soldiers and ensure communications are accessible and working to the end users. "
