8ID gets a new acting commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The Philippine Army installed Brig. Gen. Perfecto P. Peñaredondo as the new acting Commander of the 8th Infantry "Stormtroopers" Division (8ID) replacing the outgoing 8ID Commander Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo in a Change of Command Ceremony and Retirement Ceremony led by Commanding General Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido at the 8ID Abanador Hall, Camp Vicente Lukban, Maulong, Catbalogan City, Samar on September 28, 2024.

Brig. Gen. Perfecto P. Peñaredondo was the Assistant Division Commander of 8ID, and commanded the 803rd Infantry Brigade before his designation. He held several key positions both in field and unit offices such as the Chief of Staff of the 8ID; Commanding Officer of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 9th Infantry Division (9ID); and Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, G3 of 9ID. Brig. Gen. Peñaredondo is a member of the Philippine Military "Sambisig" Class of 1991.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo, who served as the 8ID Commander since 2022, will retire after almost 35 years in service. He held diverse military positions such as the Vice Commander of the Headquarters Philippine Army; Brigade Commander of the 801st Infantry Brigade, 8ID, Chief of Staff of the Central Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines; and Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, J9, AFP. Maj. Gen. Ligayo is a member of the PMA "Makatao" Class of 1989.

Lt. Gen. Galido expressed his gratitude to Maj. Ligayo for his dedication to the service. He also challenged Brig. Gen. Peñaredondo to continue driving the 8ID forward in its mission to safeguard peace and security in its area of responsibility.
