SMS Dante V Hermano (MI) PA is the current Sergeant Major of the Armour (Pambato) Division, Philippine Army. He was born in Aliaga, Nueva Ecija on September 16, 1969. He joined the army on January 16, 1987 at First Scout Ranger Regiment where he served as rifleman at CCoy, Mountain Battalion during the heights of the CPP/NPA/NDF at Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Peoples Liberation Army (CPLA) in the province of Mountain Province and Kalinga Apayao. The Mountain Battalion was renamed to 4SRBn, FSRR, PA when the unit joined in the failed coup attempt on August 28 1987.
He also held various positions at the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion, FSRR, PA, which includes Assistant Radio Operator and Assistant Administrative NCO. The 4SRBN was renamed to 77IB (Don't Dare Battalion), 5ID, PA, where he served as Counter-Intelligence Operative, Training NCO, and Chief SIGINT Br of the S2 Section until January 16, 1999, since the FSRR, PA had been dissolved sometime in the first quarter of 1990 due to the unit's continuous involvement in failed coup attempts.
On January 16, 1999, he was transferred to Headquarters Light Armor Brigade, and then became the Academic NCO of the Brigade Training Unit and Asst Admin NCO at Command Section until April 16, 2005. He serve as the G2/U2 Secretary at UN Headquarters in 2005, when the civil war in the Republic of Haiti was at its worst, along with 15 intelligence trained EP of the Philippine Army.
Upon completion of his of foreign duty, he was assigned in various positions and this includes Production NCO, OG2, LABDE, PA, Operations NCO, 3LAB, Light Armor Div, PA, Company F/Sgt 31LAC, 3LAB stationed at Marawi City, Chief Clerk, OESPA, MECH DIV, PA, Sergeant Major, 1MECH BN, Armor Div, PA stationed at Shariff Aguak Maguindanao, Sergeant Major, 2MECH BDE based in Maria Cristina, Lanao del Norte.
Among his significant military schoolings includes Military Intelligence Agent Training, Intelligence Platoon Operation Course, Tactical Intelligence NCO Course, & Intelligence Research and Analysis Course. He earned a leadership award upon graduating of the Military Intelligence NCO Advance Course at TIS, ISG, PA, and he also received honors (an academic excellence award) when graduating the AFP Sergeant Major Course at AFP Command and General Staff College. In addition, he completed three (3) civilian courses, including Users Professional Computer Training at Systems Technology Institute, Strategic Communication For Results Executive Course on AFP Transformation Training at Ateneo de Manila University, and Bachelor of Science in Criminology at Araulio University.
In his humble career, he was a recipient of numerous awards and decorations such as Bronze Cross Medal, Military Merit Medals Both in Admin and Combat, United Nation Medals, Commendation Medals, Campaign Medals, Civic Action Medals, Academic Proficiency Awards, Long Service Medal, Leadership Awards, Gawad Sa Kaunlaran, Letter of Commendations, Certificate of Achievements and Appreciations from Different Unit Commanders whom he served with. He also received Plaque of Appreciations and Recognitions from Civilian Sectors, Local Government and from Department of Education Culture & Sports.
SMS Dante V Hermano is happily married to former Miss Mercedita Manuel Nicolas of Jones, Isabela, whom he is blessed with a caring and loving son named Denmarc.
