On July 4, 1972, the Armed Forces of the Philippines had successfully intercepted the MV Karagatan arms landing of the CPP-NPA at Digoyo Point, Palanan, Isabela.
The successful interception of the MV Karagatan arms landing marked the foremost victory of the Armed Forces of the Philippines against the Communist Terrorist Group.
On its 51st anniversary, the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army based in Gamu, Isabela initiated various activities in commemoration of the successful seizure of the armaments landing.
Among these activities include the wreath-laying led by 5th Infantry Division Commander MGen Audrey A Pasia and NICA Director General LtGen Ricardo de Leon (Ret) together with representatives from different line agencies, veterans and media practitioners.
DG de Leon, who served as the guest of honor and speaker during the program, revealed to the media that he led the ground troop reinforcement to Palanan, Isabela in July 1972 to capture the rebels and the smuggled weapons.
Meanwhile, MGen Pasia said that the failed MV Karagatan arms landing is a living proof that the CTG will never succeed in its senseless ideologies and they have no space in the community.
